Every part of the deck is drawn by the app, not photographed from a real product: the screws, the shell, the tape window, the label. Press play and the reels start with the inertia of a real motor. The take-up reel gains tape as the track plays and the supply reel loses it; the speed of each hub follows the radius of the pack, exactly as it does on a real deck.
The label is printed with your track name and artist, so every song looks like a tape you dubbed yourself.
Six shells, one mechanism
The stock black cassette is free. MP95 Pro adds five more shells you can swap without stopping playback: NOIR (smoked black with a single diagonal highlight), AMBER (the orange transparent tape of the eighties), CHROME (silver with red and black stripes), GOLD (black with gold print), BLUE (cream with a blue band) and NEON (clear shell with magenta and cyan).
Turn the phone sideways and the cassette fills the whole screen. The transport keys fade after a few seconds and leave you with the tape in your hands. Tilt the phone and the light moves across the plastic.
The sound of tape, not a filter on top
Switching to the cassette deck changes what you hear, not just what you see. A native DSP chain runs under the player with tape saturation and drive, wow and flutter, and a touch of hiss. The preset is deliberately gentle: it warms the top end and adds movement to sustained notes without turning your music into a lo-fi effect. Turn it off with one switch if you want the file exactly as it is.

Works with your files, offline
MP95 plays music you own: FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, MP3, AAC, DSD, APE, WavPack and 25 more codecs, from a folder you add, from the Files app or imported from your Music library. Nothing is uploaded and nothing needs an account. Put the phone in airplane mode and the deck keeps playing.
Frequently asked questions
Is the cassette player free?
Yes. On iPhone, iPad and Mac the cassette deck is one of the two machines that are free forever, together with the vinyl player; on Android every machine is free. It includes your whole library, offline playback and the stock cassette shell. The five extra shells are part of MP95 Pro.
Does it actually sound like a cassette?
Yes, and you can switch it off. The cassette preset runs a real-time chain with tape saturation, wow and flutter and hiss. It is tuned to be subtle, closer to a good deck than to a worn-out Walkman. The analog switch on the sound desk bypasses the chain entirely.
Can I use my own music?
That is the whole point. MP95 plays local files in 35+ codecs: FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, MP3, AAC, Ogg, Opus, APE, WavPack, DSD and more. It does not stream and does not need a subscription to any music service.
