DSD to PCM, stated plainly
DSD is a one-bit stream at 2.8 MHz (DSD64) or more. MP95 converts it to multi-bit PCM with FFmpeg and plays the result through the same path as everything else. On iPhone, iPad and Mac DSD64 becomes 352.8 kHz PCM, and DSD128 and DSD256 are divided down by octaves to 352.8 kHz or less. On Android, DSD is brought to 88.2 kHz. MP95 does not send native DSD or DoP to a DAC.
Files and tags
DSF and DFF are read with their tags and artwork. The track line shows the source, for example DSD256 · 11.3 MHz. On Android, Android’s media index does not list .dsf or .dff files, so add their folder with Add music folder; they stream straight away, with no waiting for a conversion.
Who this is for
If you own DSD files and want them in one library with the rest of your music, played well on a phone or a Mac, MP95 does that. If your DAC is the reason you bought DSD and you want DoP or native DSD, you need a player that does bit-stream output.
