What 8D actually is
The "8D audio" you hear on YouTube is a mono or stereo track panned in a slow circle with binaural cues, so it seems to move around you. MP95 does this in real time on any file: the source orbits at 0.09 revolutions per second, the far ear receives the signal slightly later (up to 0.62 ms of interaural time difference), a head-shadow filter darkens the far ear and darkens more when the source is behind you, the level dips slightly behind, and a light decorrelated room reverb gives the space some walls.
Headphones, always
The effect is built from differences between your two ears. On speakers those differences mix in the air and the effect disappears. Use any headphones or earbuds; there is nothing to configure.
On the desk with everything else
8D is a switch on the sound desk beside EQ, slowed and the analog chain, and it combines with all of them. Store the combination in one of the three memory slots and it is one tap away next time. On the Mac the desk lives under the machine; on the iPhone it is a tab in the sound settings.
Frequently asked questions
Does 8D work with Spotify or Apple Music?
No. MP95 processes the audio of files it plays, and streaming services do not allow third-party playback. It works with any MP3, FLAC, ALAC, AAC, WAV or AIFF file you own.
Is 8D audio free in MP95?
8D is part of MP95 Pro.
Why does it sound flat on speakers?
Because the effect is made of timing and level differences between your ears. Speakers blur those in the room. Use headphones.
